Fiber Optic Cable Testers

Fiber optic test equipment is used to certify and troubleshoot fiber optic networks. Fiber optic testing is essential for certifying installed links and for necessary troubleshooting. Testing is used to evaluate the performance of fiber optic components, cable plants, and systems. As the components like fiber, connectors, splices, LED or laser sources, detectors, and receivers are being developed, testing confirms their performance specifications and helps understand how they will work together. Designers of fiber optic cable plants and networks depend on these specifications to determine if networks will work for the planned applications.

An optical power meter (OPM) is an instrument for the measurement of optical power (the delivered energy per unit time). It is a low-cost way to obtain accurate results and a great way to certify optical fiber. The power meter for fiber optic typically consists of three basic elements. The first, a calibrated sensor, uses a photodiode used to measure wavelengths and power levels. The second, a measuring amplifier, is used alongside the calibrated sensor to verify accuracy and deliver data. The third, a display unit, provides the measured optical power and set wavelength for a technician to note. DOWELL handheld optical power meters provide the best test accuracy, confidence, and productivity. All our power meter for fiber optic can be bundled with multimode and/or single-mode light sources for complete optical loss measurement.

The optical laser source is designed for performing insertion loss measurements on single-mode or multimode fiber optic links when used with an optical power meter. It transmits with a wavelength-identification digital encrypted protocol, enabling a handheld optical power meter to automatically use the proper calibration wavelength. The laser source for optical fiber is equipped with high-performance lasers offering excellent wavelength and power stability over a broad operating temperature range. A single output port provides stable laser power at three wavelengths. The compact unit operates in either continuous wave (CW) mode or modulated mode. DOWELL‘s optical laser source offers excellent stability and portability for accurate fiber optic testing.
